3 The sun rises two hours earlier in Arunachal Pradesh as compared to Gujarat in the west but the watches show the same time. How does this happen?

Answer: India's longitudinal expanse, measured from west to east, is found to be around 30°. This implies that there would be a delay of about two hours between Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh. To prevent these inconsistencies in local time, the Indian standard time has been fixed to provide the entire nation with a consistent time.  The time used as the national standard is the time along the Standard Meridian of India (82°30'E), which passes near Mirzapur (in Uttar Pradesh). From south to north, the latitudinal extent affects the duration of day and night. As a result, the watches display at the same time throughout the nation.
