NSO Eligibility criteria 2022-2023

The following are some essential eligibility criteria for the National Science Olympiad-
 
Schools 
Schools registered with SOF can participate in the NSO exam. The institutions can decide the convenient day on which they wish to conduct the Olympiad on their campus.

However, they need to submit the registration form a month before the examination. Students can register themselves for the National Science Olympiad through their schools. The conducting body (SOF) requires at least 10 students from each institution to enroll.
 
Class
Students from Classes 1-12 can appear in the NSO examination. 
 
Subject
Science is the mandatory subject for the National Science Olympiad (NSO). As the exam tests students' scientific knowledge, having a strong command over science is a basic need. 

Boards
Students studying from CBSE, ICSE, or state board are eligible to participate in the NSO exam.
 
Attempt
Students studying in Classes 1-12 can appear in the National Science Olympiad every year. 
 
Number of Attempts
Students can participate in the NSO exam once in an academic year.

  • Level 1

Eligibility for NSO Level 1 Exam 

There are no eligibility requirements for Level 1. NSO Level 1 exam is open to students studying in Classes 1-12. Furthermore, there are no specific academic marks for taking part in this Olympiad. Anyone who is a student of CBSE/ICSE or state board school can be an applicant to the National Science Olympiad. 
 

Eligibility for NSO Level 2 Exam 

Students who qualify and clear the cut-off of the NSO level 1 exam can move on to the second level. The basic criteria for level 2 are as follows-
  • The top 5% of students from each class who participated in the Level 1 exam can go for Level 2.
  • The top 25 rank holders in each zone who participated in the Level 1 test fulfill the criteria for the second level exam.
  • Students from each participating school where at least 10 students participated in the exam and scored half of the qualifying grades can appear in the NSO Level 2 exam. 
  • Students with the highest marks in each section can appear in the NSO Level 2 exam if registration is received section-wise. However, it is not sure that students who are awarded gold medals are eligible for the second Level NSO exam. 
Students in Classes 1 and 2 are not eligible to take part in the NSO Level 2 exams. Their performance is evaluated on the basis of Level 1 exam results.

The National Cyber Olympiad (NCO)
The National Cyber Olympiad (NCO) focuses on students' computer and information technology skills. The syllabus covers the fundamentals of computers for younger students. However, for students in higher classes, the syllabus includes coding and other advanced computing skills. 
 
The International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO)
