What is CGPA?

Another well-known method of marks calculation for students' scores in their schools and colleges is through CGPA. CGPA is the abbreviation used for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It reflects the total marks we score in an entire academic session or a specific time period, such as the first year, second year, or third year in college. 

The total marks we score in all the years of college or half-yearly exams in school are considered together to calculate the CGPA scored in that academic session.
The fundamental difference between Sessional Point Average and Cumulative Grade Point Average is that we calculate CGPA at the academic session using many SGPAs of different semesters or terms. Students should keep in mind that knowing about CGPA will assist them in understanding how to calculate SGPA.
 

Calculation of SGPA 

Now that you know about SGPA, here is how to calculate its value. A semester of Sessional Grade Point Average (SGPA) fundamentally depicts a student’s performance over a predetermined time phase, usually a semester. To find the value of SGPA, you will have to consider the credit points scored in a semester and then divide for sum by the total credit points of the semester. 

Here is the explanation of how to calculate SGPA 

• Firstly, multiply the credit Point of each subject by the grade point you have scored in the subject.
• Secondly, add all the total grade points you have scored. 
• Finally, divide the sum by the total sum of the credit points for the semester. You will find the value of the SGPA you have scored.

Example:
Subject A: 9; Subject B: 7; Subject C: 6
Now, assume the credit points for these subjects are:
Subject A: 4; Subject B: 5; Subject C: 6

Firstly, multiply your grade points by their particular credits:
Subject A: 9 x 4= 36
Subject B: 7 x 5= 35
Subject C: 6 x 6= 36

Now, add up the grade points: 36+35+36 = 107 and credit points: 4+5+6= 15
To calculate your SGPA, divide the total sum of grade points by the total of credit points: 107/14
=7.13
