The Prime Minister of India has released the Ayushman Bharat Yojana also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). This scheme was launched on September 23, 2012, and it is a health insurance scheme. Under this scheme, the government provides healthcare facilities to the economically weaker section. It covers around 50 crore citizens who have several success stories to its credit. This scheme plans to make both secondary and tertiary healthcare cashless for the impoverished section. Previously this scheme was known as AB-NHPS. But now it is changed to Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). The government had decided on the distribution of the scheme through national insurance companies. In this article, we will be discussing what is the eligibility criteria of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Also, we will cover the application process and features of the scheme.

Below are the category wise eligibility criteria for Ayushman Bharat health insurance:

1. PMJAY Rural:

         PMJAY will provide healthcare insurance to rural households. There are a total of 85.9% of rural holds who do not have any access to healthcare insurance. Moreover, about 24%                    of the rural families get the healthcare facilities by spending money. Below is the list of eligibility criteria for rural areas under which they will get the healthcare insurance:
  • The people who are scheduled caste and scheduled tribe households.
  • Those surviving on alms and Beggars.
  • Families aged 16 to 59 years and have no male members.
  • The families who have no individual between 16 to 59 years.
  • Families with no able-bodied adult and one physically challenged member.
  • Primitive Tribal Communities
  • Landless households lived by working as manual laborers.
  • The families who are living in houses with no proper roof or walls with only one room.

2. PMJAY Urban:

There are a total of 82% of urban households do not have health insurance. Moreover, 18% of urban areas have health care expenses by borrowing money. The Ayushman Bharat Yojana provides these households with healthcare services by providing a fund of Rs.5 Lakh per family per year. Below are the eligibility criteria for PMJAY under which they will get the healthcare insurance:
  • Ragpickers
  • Washerman/chowkidar
  • Domestic help
  • Mechanics, electricians, repair workers
  • Sanitation workers, sweepers, gardeners
  • Masons, painters, welders, security guards, construction site workers, and plumbers
  • Transport workers like drivers, conductors, cart pullers, and others
  • Watchmen and washerman
  • Repair workers, and assemblers.
  • Delivery assistants, attendants, waiters, Peons, helpers, shop workers,

 
3. For Hospitals:

Below are the eligibility criteria for hospitals under which they will get the benefit:
  • Qualified nursing and medical staff must be available 24/7.
  • The hospital must have registered itself with the state health agencies.
  • The hospital should have a minimum of 10 patient beds.
  • There should be emergency services and ambulances.
  • There must be a testing laboratory and blood bank in the vicinity.
  • There must be a testing laboratory and blood bank.


Features of Ayushman Bharat Yojana (PMJAY):

  • To get the primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services this scheme can be used.
  • A cover of Rs.5 Lakh is given every year to the beneficiary family.
  • These benefits can be availed from any impaneled private hospitals and government hospitals.
  •  For the coordination of the State and Central Government, an Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Mission will be established.
  • Under this scheme, there are a total of 40% of the country’s population.


How to Register for Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana Online?

  • Firstly, you have to visit the official website of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
  • Enter your mobile number and Captcha Code.
  • Now, click on the ‘Generate OTP’ option.
  • OTP will be sent to your mobile number, to complete the verification process.
  • The PMJAY login screen will open.
  • Enter all the required details.
