Prelims is conducted in two phases. The time duration for each stage is 2 hours and the maximum marks are 100.

This is an objective type stage, where questions are asked in form of MCQs.The exam pattern is illustrated below.
Paper 1  General Studies  100 marks / 100 questions
Paper 2  Law  100 marks/ 100 questions 

BPSC APO Exam Pattern: Mains 


This is a subjective type stage, where candidates will have to write detailed answers. This stage is conducted over a span of few days. The mains consists of 7 papers, each carrying 300 marks. The time duration for each paper is 3 hours.
1. General Studies 100
2. Hindi Language 100
3. English Language 100
4. Indian Penal Code, 1860 150
5. Indian Evidence Act, 1872 150
6. Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 150
7. Other Laws 150

The candidates who successfully clear their mains are eligible to appear for the interview round.
