TNPSC Group 2 Prelims Exam pattern 2023

The TNPSC Group 2 Exam is divided into three stages: prelims, mains, and interviews.

The services are classified as Group 2 and Group 2A. Only Group 2 posts are subject to an interview process. There is no interview for Group 2A positions.

1. All questions will be bilingual, meaning they will be available in both English and Tamil.

TNPSC Group 2 Mains Exam Pattern 2023


Candidates who pass the preliminary examination will be entitled to take the main examination. The main exam is divided into two parts: Paper I and Paper II. Candidates who get the minimum qualifying marks in Paper I will have their Paper II sheets reviewed.
  • For non-interview posts, the TNPSC Group 2 mains test is worth 300 points, while for interview positions, it is worth 340 points.
  • To pass the major examinations for groups 2 and 2A, a minimum of 102 and 90 points are required.
  • The Group 2 main exam will be divided into two halves (A and B), each with 14 objective-type questions totaling 300 points.
  • The TNPSC Group 2 examination is available in both English and Tamil.
  • The TNPSC Group 2 services involve a 40-mark interview in addition to the main test.

  • Simplification: Percentage – Highest Common Factor (HCF) – Lowest Common Multiple (LCM).
  • Ratio and Proportion.
  • Simple interest: Compound interest – Area – Volume – Time and Work.
  • Logical Reasoning: Puzzles – Dice – Visual Reasoning – Alphanumeric Reasoning – Number Series.

TNPSC Group 2 Mains Exam Pattern

The TNPSC Group 2 Mains Exam has two papers: Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is qualifying in nature while Paper II is both scoring and qualifying in nature.

  1. The final merit list will take into account the main test scores.
  2. Paper I and Paper II make up this exam's two papers.
  3. Paper I: There are two questions on this paper for each translation from Tamil to English and from English to Tamil.
  4. Paper II: There are 15 questions on this paper, 3 from each of the following categories: precise writing, comprehension, hint development, and essay writing on "Thirukkural" and letter writing.
  5. Paper I simply serves as a qualification. Those who pass Paper I will have their Paper II sheet examined.
  6. In the group 2 and group 2A main exams, respectively, a minimum of 102 and 90 marks are needed to pass.
  7. The TNPSC Group 2 test is bilingual and is offered in both Tamil and English.

Candidates who successfully qualify for the prelims exam will appear for the mains exam. The main exam is divided into two parts i.e., Paper I and Paper II. The sheet of paper II of those candidates who score minimum qualifying marks in paper I will be evaluated.
