The country is dealing with an outbreak of COVID-19, so this year's Republic Day celebrations on New Delhi's Rajpath will be low-key. The Republic Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. on January 26 due to a decision by the Defense Ministry. Ten giant LED displays, five on each side of Rajpath, have been constructed for spectators during the procession to provide a better viewing experience on a misty morning.

For the second year in a straight, no foreign dignitary is expected to attend the R-Day procession. Last year, India asked the leaders of five Central Asian countries to attend, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, however because of the pandemic, no foreign dignitaries were able to attend.

Even British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had withdrawn from the event after the UK was hit by the pandemic's second wave.

India has chosen not to welcome foreign leaders this year due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and the emergence of a new Omicron form.
Rafale, Jaguar, Mi-17, Sarang, Apache, Sukhoi, and Dakota aircraft will be on display, with approximately 75 aircraft in 15 different formations taking part in the annual fly-past that concludes the celebration.
