NDA FAQs

What is NDA conducted for ?

NDA is a national level exam conducted by Union Public Service commission (UPSC) to recruit candidates for Army, Navy and Air Force. The exam is divided into two parts as NDA(1) and NDA(2) and is conducted twice a year



What is the eligibility criteria for NDA exam ?

To be eligible to apply for NDA, a candidate must be:
(1) A citizen of India, or;
(2) A subject of Nepal, or;
(3) A subject of Bhutan, or;
(4) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before1 January, 1962, with an intention to permanently settling in India or;
(5) A person originally Indian who may have migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with an intention to permanently reside in India.

(* Provided the candidates belonging to category (2), (3), (4), (5) shall have certificate of eligibility issued in their favour by the Govt. of India. However, Certificate of eligibility will not be necessary for the candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.)



What is the educational qualification required to get admitted into National Defence Academy (NDA) ?

The educational qualification to get admitted into NDA is as follows:

The Army Wing of NDA The candidate must have passed class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board.
The Air Force and Navy Wings of NDA and 10+2 Cadet entry scheme at INA The candidate must have passed class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics.
• Candidates appearing in Class 12 are eligible or equivalent exam can apply.
• Candidates who are appearing in Class 11 are not eligible.



What is the age limit to apply for NDA exam 2021 ?

• To be eligible for NDA (1), candidates should not be born earlier than 2nd July, 2001 and not later than 1st July, 2004.
• To be eligible for NDA (2), candidates must not be born earlier than 2nd January, 2002 and not later than 1st January, 2005
• A candidate must be aged between 16.5 years to 19 years to be eligible for NDA exam.
• The commission will consider the Date of Birth as mentioned on Class 10 or 12 certificate
• Candidates are expected to submit these required certificates after declaration of results of written exam.
(Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply for the exam. Candidates are not allowed to get married their training is complete. If any candidate decides to get married during his training period then he is discharged and then is required to refund all the expenditure spent on him to the government.)



How can we apply for NDA?

The registration process is divided into two parts:

PART 1:

• The candidate can apply for NDA exam by filling the application form which is available on official website of UPSC i.e. upsc.gov.in
• The application form first requires the candidates to fill their details carefully Ex. Name, Address, Date of Birth, Marital Status, Community, etc.
• After filling the above details the candidate is required to choose the branch preference of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force and rate them from 1 to 4 based on his preference.
• The candidate is then required to verify all the details filled in the form as no changes can be made to the form after the final submission. After verification, candidate is required to click on I Do Not Agree/ I Agree.
• After the above step, the candidate will be provided with their registration IDs. And the same registration IDs are sent to the respective candidate’s email ID.

PART 2:

• Once the registration IDs are generated, the candidates are now required to pay the final application fee, which can be paid both through online and offline mode too.
• The next step requires the candidate to select the examination centre.
• And the last step requires the candidate o upload his Photograph and Signature as per the dimensions prescribed by the authority.

When will application process start for NDA 2021 ?

The application process will start from 30th December, 2020 and will end by 19th January,2021 for NDA(1) exam (Tentative).
The application process will start from 9th of June, 2021 and will end on 29th of June, 2021 for NDA(2) exam (Tentative).



Is NDA exam bilingual and is the negative marking policy followed in NDA exam ?

Yes, the NDA exam is bilingual with Hindi and English as the selected languages. Yes, the NDA exam follows negative marking policy in its written test.



What is the exam pattern of NDA exam ?

The exam pattern of NDA exam is as follows:
The first exam i.e. a written test is an offline pen-paper based exam. The exam is an Objective type or MCQ based exam which is divided into two parts, namely Mathematics and General Ability Test. The test is of 900 marks and comprises of 270 questions overall.



What are the physical needs to be fulfilled to qualify the selection process of NDA exam ?

Qualifying some pre determined Physical standards as prescribed by NDA are a must to get selected as a NDA officer. Some of the important physical factors are listed below:
If a candidate wants to go for Indian Army, he should be 157 cm tall and if a person wants to go for Air Force, he should be 163 cm tall.
