CBSE Starts Special Drive for Continuous Professional Development of Teachers

The Central Board of Secondary Education has started a special drive for professional development of teachers from CBSE affiliated government and government aided schools. The Board released a notice on 1st April 2023 giving information about this initiative. As per the official notice, CBSE has started this drive keeping in mind the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020 which says that schools should ensure participation of teachers in at least 50 hours of Continuous Professional Development. It is also mandated in the CBSE bye-laws that teachers should participate in at least 25 hours of training programs.

A high powered Committee was constituted by CBSE to give recommendations on providing training to teachers. As per the decisions of the Committe, CBSE will provide training for teachers of Government, Government Aided, Public Private Partnership schools affiliated with CBSE starting from April 2023.

To further this process, CBSE has established 16 Centres of Excellence to provide In-service training of teachers of all CBSE affiliated schools. Training is conducted under two categories in COEs- Generic and Subject Specific. here are 23 training courses aligned with classes X and XII subjects while there are 22 generic courses ranging from Adolescent Education Program, Art Integration, Inclusive Education, Happy Classrooms, Cyber Safety and Security and more. The different modalities of teachers training have been finalized in partnership with the State Governments and UTs. These will sponsor and make online registration for teachers trainings from their Government, Government Aided and PPP schools on CBSE training portal.
