What Is SSC Stenographer exam?

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSC Stenographer exam annually. It is an All India level examination for the post of Stenographer Grade C (non-gazetted post) and Grade D posts in various departments, ministries and organizations of the Government of India.

SSC Stenographer 2020 Notification

F.No.3/5/2019-P&P-II: The Staff Selection Commission will hold an Open Competitive Computer Based Examination for recruitment of Stenographer Grade „C‟ (Group „B‟, NonGazetted) and Stenographer Grade „D‟ (Group „C‟) for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India. Only those candidates who have required skills in stenography are eligible to apply.

SSC Stenographer Exam Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the exam is mentioned in the official notification. Candidates must ensure they meet all the criteria before they apply for the exam. The SSC Stenographer Exam Eligibility criteria is as follows:

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern

There are 2 stages in this exam. The examination consist of one Computer Based Exam (Tier –I) and a skill test as Tier- II.

SSC Stenographer Tier I Exam Pattern     

The first phase of the SSC Stenographer exam is an online exam. Where candidates will have to secure marks more than a certain cutoff, in order to be eligible for other phases of the exam.

  1. Questions in Tier –I are objective type
  2. Each question carries 2 mark.
  3. Stipulated time for completion of Tier –I is two hour.
  4. SSC Stenographer Tier –I is a bilingual exam, conducted in Hindi and English.
  5. In Tier-I, there will be negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer.
  6. The maximum marks are 100.

SSC Stenographer Tier- II (Skill Test):

This is the test of stenography skills. The candidates who are shortlisted in the Computer Based Examination will have to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or they must have a speed of 100 word per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Stenographer Grade „C‟ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade D‟.

SSC Stenographer Exam Selection Process 2020-21

SSC Stenographer selection process starts with the release of notification. The official SSC Stenographer notification contains information about the number of vacancies, exam dates, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, syllabus, and other important information. The notification for 2021 is yet to be released.

SSC Stenographer Exam Application

Interested candidates who meet all the eligibility criteria are required to apply online for the examination. The application process is open for a specific time.  The application fee for all candidates is Rs 100 and women/SC/ST/ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from payment of the fee.

SSC Stenographer Admit Card

Admit card for SSC Stenographer exam is released a month or so before the exam.  Candidates who are considered eligible by SSC are given admit card for the examination. The admit cards are available online and can be downloaded from the official website of SSC.

 

SSC Stenographer Tier –I

All the candidates with valid admit cards can appear for this Stage. This is a computer-based exam, where 3 sections are tested for 300 marks in total. The candidates who are successful in this stage are called for Tier –II of the exam.

SSC Stenographer Skill Test

It is mandatory for all the candidates to go through his stage. Here the proficiency and command over stenography skills is tested.

Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by appointing departments

SSC Stenography Final Result

The final result is based on the overall performance in Tier I and Tier II. Generally the final result is released in the official web site of SSC. The final result is in form of a merit list and the candidates can check there score by login in to the SSC website.  The skill test does not have any weightage in the final result but the candidates must pass this stage or they are rejected.
