UPSC has few parameters which each candidate must fulfill. The candidates are supposed to apply for the post only if they meet the set criteria. The documents of candidates will be scrutinized before the interview round. The\UPSC EPFO Eligibility criteria is based on.

As per the official notification a candidate must be either:
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Candidates who are under the age of 30 years are eligible to appear for the exam. The relaxation in age is as per rules of the central government, a few of them are mentioned below.
- Age limit is relaxed for SC/ST candidates up to 5 years and up to 3 years for OBC candidates
- Employees of EPFO get a relaxation of 5 years.
- Ex-Servicemen and Commissioned Officers including ECOs/SSCOs get a relaxation of five years, depending upon rules
The candidate must be a graduate and should have a Graduation Degree from a recognized university. Also, candidates with post-graduation in a few specialized disciplines like law, accounts, and Company Secretariat will be preferred.
Official notification does not contain any information on number of attempts. Candidates, if are under the age limit, can appear for the exam.
