Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, who was he?
Scientist in the field of aerospace Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam led India as its 11th president from 2002 to 2007.
APJ Abdul Kalam worked as a scientist and scientific administrator for the following forty years, primarily at the Indian Space Research Organization and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) (ISRO). Additionally, he played a key role in developing India's military missile program as well as its civilian space program.
As a result of his contributions to the advancement of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology, APJ Abdul Kalam earned the nickname "Missile Man of India."

Anniversary of APJ Abdul Kalam's Death
On July 27, 2015, at the age of 83, Dr Kalam collapsed and passed away after what appeared to be a heart arrest while giving a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong.
Thousands of people, including national leaders, attended his funeral service in his birthplace of Rameswaram, where he was buried with full state honours.
