Numerous farmers held a one-year-long agitation at the Delhi borders under the auspices of SKM, which resulted in the government rescinding the farm legislation.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, had pledged to form a committee to address the farmers' demand for a legal guarantee on MSP when he announced the repeal of three farm regulations in November of last year.
The Agriculture Ministry issued a gazette notification announcing the setting up of a committee in this regard.
The panel will comprise Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand, agri-economists CSC Shekhar from Indian Institute of Economic Development and Sukhpal Singh from IIM- Ahmedabad and Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) senior member Naveen P Singh.
Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, a farmer who has won national awards, three members of SKM, and five members from other farmer organizations make up the committee's farmer representatives. These members are Gunwant Patil, Krishnaveer Choudhary, Pramod Kumar Choudhary, Guni Prakash, and Sayyed Pasha Patel.
IFFCO Chairman Dilip Sanghani and CNRI General Secretary Binod Anand are two members of the farmers' cooperative and organization who are also on the committee.
The committee also includes senior representatives from agricultural universities, five secretaries of the federal government, and the chief secretaries of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha.
The committee will investigate how to make MSP available to farmers by improving the system's efficiency and transparency, the notification states.
Additionally, it will provide suggestions about the viability of granting CACP, which determines the MSP of Agri crops, more autonomy as well as steps to improve its scientific rigourigore panel will also consider measures to improve the agricultural marketing system by the nation's shifting needs to guarantee greater value to farmers through remunerative rates for their produce by utilizing domestic and international chances.
In addition to MSP, the committee will consider strategies for promoting natural farming, crop diversification, and micro-irrigation schemes. It will also make recommendations for turning Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and other Research and Development institutions into knowledge hubs.
