The most important features of the world's largest statue

The statue was designed by Indian sculptor Ram Sutar and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2018, the 143rd anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel's birth.

To carry out this project, a society called the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta trust was established under the chairmanship of Gujarat's chief minister.

The makers needed iron, which they obtained from farmers, to build the statue of unity. Farmers donated their used farming equipment, and by 2016, 135 matric terms of scrap iron had been collected to build the statue of unity, which had 109 turns and was used to make the statue's foundation.

The statue of unity stands 182 meters tall and is the world's tallest statue. It is 54 meters higher than the Spring Temple of Buddha in Henan Province, China. The statue of unity is located on Sadhu Bed, a river island 3.2 kilometres from the Narmada dam.

The statue is divided into five zones, with only three hours open to the general public. The first zone of the statue extends from the base to the three-level level of Patel's shins. An exhibition area, mezzanine, and roof are among the three levels. A museum and a memorial garden are also located in the first zone. The second zone of the statue extends up to Patel's thighs, while the third zone extends up to the 153-meter-high viewing gallery.

In the ten days following the statue's grand opening on November 1, 2018, more than one lakh tourists visited it. The statue of unity attracted over 2 crore visitors in its first year of operation, generating Rs. 82 crore in ticket revenue.
