Every year, the UPSC holds two sessions of the Combined Defence Services examination to appoint young people as officers in the armed forces. After the written test, candidates must go through a demanding five-day interview process at one of the Service Selection Boards (SSB) located throughout the nation's cities. The candidates who make the cut after the interview undergo a medical examination at their respective boards, and the medically fit candidates are then accepted into the Indian Military Academy, Indian Airforce Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Officers Training Academy, which are the four training academies.
