A Quick Overview of Class 10 Maths Chapter 14

In Class 10 Maths Chapter 14, students will learn the three measures of central tendency that are mean, median, and mode from ungrouped data to that of grouped data. Students will also understand the concepts of cumulative frequency, the cumulative frequency distribution, and how to draw cumulative frequency known as ogives.

Mean of Grouped Data

The mean of the observation is the sum of all the values given in the observations divided by the total number of observations.

If y₁,y₂, y₃, y₄...yₙ are observation with respective frequencies f1, f2, f3, f4, ….,fn

Then, the mean of the yof the data is given by:

y¯y¯
=
f1y1,f2y2,f3y3,f4y4,+.....+ynf1,f2,f3,f4,....fnf1y1,f2y2,f3y3,f4y4,+.....+ynf1,f2,f3,f4,....fn

Mode of Grouped Data

The mode of the is that value among the observations which occurs most frequently and is also defined as the value of the observation having a maximum frequency.

Median of Grouped Data

Median is defined as the measure of central tendency which obtains the value of the middlemost observation in the data.

If n is odd, then the median is the

(n+12)th(n+12)th
term of the observations.

If n is even, then the median is defined as the average of the

(n2)th(n2)th
and the
(n+12)th(n+12)th
term of the observations.

What does l mean in statistics?

linear
In statistics, an L-statistic is a statistic (function of a data set) that is a linear combination of order statistics; the "L" is for "linear". These are more often referred to by narrower terms according to use, namely: L-estimator, using L-statistics as estimators for parameters

What is the formula of mean for class 10 statistics?

Mean of a set of observations is the average of the given observations. To find the mean, we divide the sum of the observations by the total number of observations.

What are 3 methods to find mean?

There are three methods to find the mean for grouped data, depending on the size of the data.
They are:
  • Direct Method.
  • Assumed Mean Method.
  • Step-deviation Method

How is student Mark calculated?

Now, find the sum of fi separately and fixi . Mean is given by Mean=∑fixi∑fi .
