To help you decode any confusing jargon you encounter, we've put together a glossary of the most-used email Marketing Terms.

Here are the Top Email Marketing Terms and Definitions every marketer should know.

1. Acceptance Rate

The percentage of emails that are successfully delivered or acknowledged by the mail server is known as the acceptance rate. Emails that have been accepted do not bounce. Either the spam or rubbish folders, or the inbox, can receive them.

2. Blacklist

A real-time list that identifies IP addresses as spammer IPs, or known to send spam, is known as an email blacklist.

3. Bounce Rate

The percentage of emails that failed to reach their intended recipients is known as the bounce rate. The sender receives a Non-Delivery Report when an email fails to deliver (NDR). Less than 5% of bounces is considered acceptable.

4. Bulk Mail

big-scale marketing or promotional emails that are sent all at once to a vast subscriber base and have the same content. In general, bulk mails consist of newsletters, updates, coupons, and invites.

5. CAN-SPAM

The CAN-SPAM acronym stands for the "Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003," a statute that establishes guidelines for commercial email. Businesses are not permitted by law to send targeted emails without authorization. All promotional emails sent by businesses must contain a "unsubscribe" link, and names cannot be included in emails without the recipient's "express permission."

6. CTR

The term "Click Through Rate" (CTR) refers to the proportion of receivers who click on a link in a promotional email. It is determined by dividing the total number of clicks by the total number of emails opened. The better for a firm, the higher the CTR score.

7. Conversion Rate

The percentage of subscribers that act on an email's call to action is known as the conversion rate. Depending on the conversion objective of the sender, this could be a click, a download, a buy, or any other desired action. One of the best measures of a company's marketing strategy's effectiveness is conversion rate.

8. Dedicated IP

It refers to an IP address given solely to your account by a service. So, you are the only person who can send letters from there. An IP address that is shared by several users is known as a shared IP.

9. Double Opt-In, Single Opt-In

When a user subscribes to email marketing in two steps, first completing a conventional sign-up and then clicking a confirmation link in an email, this is known as a double opt-in. By employing the double opt-in confirmation procedure, marketers lessen the possibility of spam addresses being on the deployment list.
Subscribers that sign up for email communications using a single opt-in method do not click the confirmation link after completing the first stage of the opt-in process. Contrary to double opt-in, single opt-in may result in recipients who are less engaged; for this reason, it is not a suggested email marketing technique.

10. Email Campaign

A set of marketing initiatives directed at a certain marketing objective make up an email campaign. Emails are delivered to subscribers in an effort to engage them with useful content and timely promotions. A profitable email marketing strategy aids in brand promotion and revenue growth.

11. Email Service Provider (ESP)

To send email marketing campaigns to its subscribers, email marketers use a software service called an email service provider.

12. Hard Bounce

An email that failed to deliver owing to a persistent issue, such as a blocked server or an incorrect destination address, is said to have "hard bounced." One of the main objectives of email marketing is the decrease hard bounces.
