Today India is celebrating 73rd Indian Army Day. Every year India celebrates Indian Army Day on 15th January to mark the celebration in the memory of  Field Marshall M. Cariappa (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army on 15th January 1949. This day we also remember and pay tribute to all those valiant soldiers who laid their lives in service of the nation. Today there are parades and other military shows organised in Delhi, wherein gallantry medals and seva medals are also awarded.
