To calculate the percentage of marks, you need to divide the marks obtained in the subjects or discipline by the total marks and multiply them by 100.

Rohan scored the following marks in 6 subjects:
English: 94
Hindi: 89

Percentage of marks = (529/600) × 100

Tips to Calculate Percentage of Marks

Here are some helpful tricks that can help you calculate the percentage of marks. 
  • To determine 50% of a number, divide it by 2. For example, 42 divided by 2 is 21.
  • One-tenth refers to one-tenth. To determine 10% of a number, divide it by 10, or shift the decimal point to the left place. 
  • For example, 10% of 360 is 36, divided by 10.
  • When determining a percentage greater than 100%, you need to shift the decimal to the percent two gaps to the left and make use of the answer to multiply the number in question.
