CTET is open to those who have finished their postgraduate studies at any recognized university. Candidates who are in their last year of a postgraduate degree program will be eligible to apply for CTET.
Those who pass the CTET exam are eligible to apply for teaching positions in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and other Kendriya Vidyalayas by participating in a recruiting drive.
Applicants must have received at least a 50% grade in class 12 or equivalent. They must also pass or appear in the last year of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd)/ two-year diploma in elementary education/ bachelor of elementary education/ BEd for students in grades one through five. Candidates for classes 6 to 8 must have passed or appeared in BEd/BElEd.

The CTET exam is divided into two parts: the first is a two-and-a-half-hour exam with a total of 150 multiple-choice questions, and the second is a one-and-a-half-hour exam with a total of 150 MCQs. Child Development and Pedagogy, Languages, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies are among the sections in Paper I.
For the CTET Paper II, a total of 150 MCQs worth 150 points are administered over the course of 150 minutes. Child development and pedagogy, language, mathematics and science (for math and science teachers), and social studies/social science are some of the sections in this paper (for social science teacher).
The validity duration of the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) qualification certificate had already been increased by the Education Ministry. Previously, the validity was limited to seven years, but starting in 2011, it will be extended to a lifetime.
This will be a significant start toward improving employment prospects for those interested in pursuing a career as a teacher, according to Pokhriyal. He further mentioned that state/UT governments have been urged to take the appropriate steps to revalidate TET certificates for candidates whose seven-year deadline has expired.
