UPPSC Judicial Services Syllabus

Judicial Services Recruitment has prelims and mains as its stages. The syllabus for both of these stages has been set by UPPSC. The detailed topic-wise syllabus is as follows:

UPPSC Judicial Services Syllabus for Prelims

Paper 1 General Knowledge of Current Affairs and Static GK as well as elementary General Science topics. 
Paper 2 Law topics like the Law of Evidence & Procedure, Constitutional & Administrative Law of India, Hindu Law & Mohammedan Law, Law of Transfer of Property & Principles of Equity, Law of Trusts & Specific Relief, Law of Contracts Or Torts as well as questions on Commercial Law.

UPPSC Judicial Services Syllabus for Mains

There are five compulsory papers and the candidate also has to attempt three our of the five optional papers. The detailed syllabus for each paper is as given below:

Compulsory Papers
General Knowledge Current events of national & international importance, History of India & Indian National Movement, Indian & World Geography, Indian Polity & Economy.
General Science 10th and 12th level questions where they shall be asked questions regarding matters of everyday observation & experience.
General Hindi Hindi essays, sentence formation or syntax related questions as well as questions on Hindi Grammar. 
General English Spotting Errors in sentences & phrases, Antonyms & Synonyms, Fill in the blanks with words missing, usage of prepositions, idioms & phrases, word analogies, spelling tests, rearrangement of sentences, questions on comprehension, summary or precis writing to test English knowledge as well letter writing on a given subject. 
Law Evidence and Procedure Indian Evidence Act (1 of 1872), the Civil Procedure Code (5 of 1908), Arbitration & Conciliation Act 1996, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (2 of 1974)as well as the Provincial Small Cause Courts Act of 1887. 


Optional Papers
Constitutional & Administrative Law of India

Questions on Constitution of India from Article 1 to 395 & Schedules, questions on administrative law of India, Delegated legislation, Control of delegated legislation i.e. both Judicial and Legislative, Fair hearing, rules of natural justice, rules against bias, Audi alteram partem questions, 

Tribunals & quasi-judicial authorities, judicial control, Regulatory authorities, Judicial review of administrative action, Jurisdiction & statutory judicial remedies, scope, extent & distinction, Public interest litigation, Tortious liability of state & compensation, 

Promissory estoppel, legitimate expectation, and questions on doctrine of proportionality,

Government contracts as well as questions on the Ombudsman.

Hindu and Muhammadan Law Questions on Hindu Law including Schools, Marriage, Adoption, Impartible Estate, and Endowment. Muhammadan Law comprising questions on Marriage Law, Adoption, Wills, Legitimacy, Acknowledgement as well as Guardianship. 
Law of Transfer of Property Questions on Principles of equity, law of trust, Specific relief, questions on the history of the Court of equity, maxims and its origin of use, determination of trust, questions on remedies for the breach of trust, Specific Relief Act 1963 (Act 47 of 1963) as well as questions on the Indian Trust Act (2 of 1882). 
Law of Contracts & Torts Questions on Indian contract act, Law of Torts, General principles of liabilities, Remedies, Injuries to persons, Assault, False imprisonment, Injuries to domestic & contractual relations, Wrongful dismissal, questions regarding Defamation, Negligence questions, The rule in Rylands vs. Fletcher Deceit questions, Conspiracy as well as questions on malicious prosecution. 
Commercial Law Questions regarding the sale of goods, negotiable instruments, company law as well as questions on partnership.
