List of National Parks in India:  Slowly and steadily, as the population of humans is increasing in the world, forests are also disappearing from the earth. There are many species of animals and birds that have completely vanished from the earth. To save these species and protect them, national parks are being created by governments and NGOs around the world. If we talk about the first national park in the world, it is said to be the Yellowstone National Park in the United States, which was established in 1872. However, it is not known by the name of the national park, but it is considered by many experts to be the oldest and first national park in the world. In India, also, to save the vanishing species, the government has created many national parks in different states, such as the Jim Corbett National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park, Kaziranga National Park, and many more. These national parks not only protect the animals and their habitats but also provide a platform for tourists to experience the beauty of nature and wildlife.

What is a National Park

The national park is an area that is strictly reserved for the betterment of the wildlife and biodiversity, and where activities like developmental, forestry, poaching, hunting and grazing on cultivation are not permitted. The government can declare an area as a national park with adequate ecological, geo-morphological and natural significance. In these parks, even private ownership rights are not allowed. Their boundaries are well marked and circumscribed.

India's national parks are category II protected areas according to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The first national park in India, today known as Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, was founded in 1936. India only had five national parks by 1970. In order to protect the habitats of animals that depend on conservation, India passed the Wildlife Protection Act in 1972 and Project Tiger in 1973.In the 1980s, more federal legislation aimed at enhancing wildlife preservation was introduced. India now has 106 national parks.

In India, there are currently 106 national parks, which occupy an area of 44,378 km2, or 1.35 percent of the nation's total land area (National Wildlife Database, Dec. 2020). Along with the aforementioned, 75 more National Parks totaling 16,608 km2 are suggested in the Protected Area Network Report. After the aforementioned study has been fully implemented, the network of parks will increase by 176.
