Herodotus 

The life of Herodotus, the man who created history, is mostly obscure. Halicarnassus, which is currently in Turkey but was formerly a part of the Persian Empire, is where he was born. Herodotus travelled widely, starting in Egypt before stopping in Athens and a number of Middle Eastern cities, including Syria and Babylon. He reaches as far as the Danube and the Black Sea. While travelling, he collected written records and conducted multiple interviews with locals. Herodotus was known to be a curious individual. So he started recording whatever he heard from these guys using the simple technique.

  • Between 302 and 288 BCE, Megasthenes travelled to India. He was sent by Seleucus and served as the country's first foreign ambassador. 
  • He was delivered to Chandragupta, the Mauryan emperor, by the Hellenistic king. He remained in the state of Patliputra during that time and wrote about the India of the time. 
  • His writings described the political agreements the Indian emperor made and how he brought them all under one government.
