1. Through CDS Exam (Combined Defence Services Exam): The most common way to join the Indian army after graduation
It is a common entrance examination that is held twice every year in September/October and February/March by the UPSC. Unmarried Males -Females can apply for this examination.
- Qualification - Candidates must have completed their graduation from a recognized university /institution. Candidates in the last year of their graduation can also apply.
- Male candidates who choose Indian Military Academy (IMA) /Officers Training Academy (OTA)/AFA/INA as their training institute must be between 19-24 years of age. Whereas those male and female candidates who choose Officers Training Academy (OTA) as their training institute must be between 19-25 years of age.
- Procedure For Selection: Written test followed by SSB interview for those candidates who qualify in the Written Test.

2. There is a special entry for NCC cadets to join the Indian army after graduation
In this case, a candidate won't have to sit for an entrance exam if they have done service in the NCC Senior Division Army
- Qualification: Candidates must have completed their graduation with LLB/LLM from a recognized University or institution with a minimum of 50% marks and have a total of 2 years of service in the NCC Senior Division Army with a B or C grade in the qualifying examination, then the candidate will be directly called for the SSB interview for recruitment into the Armed forces. Candidates must be between 19-25 years of age.
- Selection Process: Candidates will be selected based on qualification, Group Tests, Psychological Tests, interviews & Medical examinations.
3. SSC ( Short Service Commission) TECH & TGC (Technical Graduate Course ) Entry to join Indian Army After Graduation
For TGC no entrance exam is held. The application is released twice a year and the recruitment is for :
- Qualification: The candidate must be a male B.E. or B.Tech degree holder from a recognised institution or university.
- Age- 20-27 years of age.
- Procedure For Selection: Candidates who clear cutoff are directly called for SSB Interview.
- Qualification: Candidates can be either male or female with B.E. or B.Tech degree holders from a recognised institution or university.
- Age : 20-27 years ( Male); 19-25 years (Female)
- Procedure For Selection: Candidates who clear cutoff are directly called for SSB Interview.
4. University Entry Scheme (UES Entry Scheme) to join Indian Army After Graduation
- This is a Permanent Commission job and only male candidates can apply for the post. Interviews are held for the post —the first one is held at the campus whereas the final one is held at the SSB centres.
- Qualification - Candidate must have a B.Tech degree, candidates in their final and pre-final year students can also apply.
- Age- candidates should be between 18 years to 24 years at the time of commencement of the course.
- Procedure For Selection: Candidates have to clear 2 SSB Interviews.
5. Entry through JAG (Judge Advocate General's): This way law graduates can join the Indian Army After Graduation
- Law graduates who have secured a minimum of 55% + marks and are registered with the Bar Council of India or the State can apply for the JAG entry course.
- The candidate should be between 21-27 years of age. The training for the JAG will be provided at the Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) Chennai and for joining the Indian Army they have to go through the SSB interview.
- Procedure: Through calls made by SSB to the candidates after the initial screening of their applications.
