What is Operating System ?

Types of Operating System :

The following are the various types of operating systems, along with brief descriptions of each: 

1. Batch Processor System 
  • The computer and the operating system do not communicate directly. 
  • There is an intermediary, the Operator, who is responsible for batching the work and sorting comparable projects. 
  • It can be used by multiple people. 
  • Can manage a significant quantity of work with ease
2. Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) 
  • It is equipped with a data processing system. 
  • Between the user's command and the result, the processing time is relatively short. 
  • Used in situations where a speedy response is required.
3. Operating System for Time-Sharing 
  • A programme can be used by multiple persons at different terminals at the same time. 
  • The major goal is to reduce response time.
4. Operating System that is Distributed 
  • When two or more systems are connected to each other, one can open files that are not on their system but are on other devices connected to the network. Its popularity has grown over time. 
  • They provide real-time applications with numerous central processors. 
  • The failure of one system has no impact on the other systems in the network.
5. Operating System for Embedded Devices 
  • These unique operating systems are integrated into larger systems. 
  • They are usually limited to a single purpose, such as an ATM.
6. Network Operating System
  • They have one main server which is connected to other client servers
  • All the management of files, processing of data, access to sharing files, etc. are performed over this small network
  • It is also a secure operating system for working with multiple users
7. Mobile Operating System
  • With the advancement in the field of technology, smartphones now are released with an Operating system. 
  • They are designed in a manner that they can help a small device work efficiently.

  • It aids in memory retention. It keeps track of the files that are saved in the computer's main memory and primary memory. 
  • When a computer is turned on, the operating system kicks in automatically. As a result, the OS plays a vital role in the booting and rebooting of a computer device. 
  • It has a graphical user interface. 
  • The operating system is in charge of fundamental peripheral device management. 
  • The data on the device can be kept secure by using the operating system's password protection feature. 
  • It works in tandem with the user and the software. 
  • The OS is in charge of file and programme organisation and navigation.
  • The operating system handles every software that has to be run through the system. 
  • If an error or bug is discovered during the programme, the operating system is used to detect it.
